Arcticooler - as good as Alpha?

Does anyone have a definite answer or explanation as to why Kyle at HardOCP tested the Arcticooler to have equal or slightly better performance than the Alpha PAL6035 w/ 27CFM fan while Ian at 2cooltek had the Alpha w/ 23CFM fan outperforming the Arcticooler?

They have very different testing methods but the results they get are consistent with each other for the most part except the Arcticooler.

Are there any other reviews out there?

2 things about the articooler:

1. the bottom might need to be lapped. i'm pretty sure kyle did that, as he probably does to all his hs/fans. other people in the hardforums have been saying that lapping the bottom so it is perfectly flat gave them a 10 degree drop in temperature.

2. the clips were having problems but are being (speedily!) resolved by agilent.

i'd get an articooler since it's SMALLER, LIGHTER, and most importantly QUIETER, while providing 'close enough' performance to anything else out there.

i mean, look at my sig and see what a $12 golden orb does with $0.99 grease. do you really need artic silver and a huge, loud alpha??

EDIT: I'm using a golden orb, not an articooler (fraudian slip?) but only because the articooler wasn't available yet in early august 2000 when i built my system initially.

Thanks for the info subhuman, that explained the discrepency...

Where did you get your Arcticooler for $12? According to both 2cooltek and Millisec, it costs around $30-50 with shipping and tax.
