Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and have found some great information here. Having a problem with my Arctic Xtreme III and my R9 290x setup. Should I connect the small 4pin (12v) connector to my PCB or to my PSU (using the supplied PSU cable)? I want to use the faster 12v fan and don't know if the PCB needs to "See" the cooler connected on the PCB to operate correctly.

Thanks!

Either way. You can connect the 4 pin to your PCB and you will have the ability to control the fan speeds with MSI AB or a program like it. Or you can connect the 4pin/molex to the PSU and get 100% fan speed all of the time. I like connecting the 4pin to the PCB because it will make your PC quieter when at idle. I used to ramp the fan up to 100% when gaming or doing something else that puts load on your gpu.

Thanks, Face. My problem goes to using CGMiner in Xubuntu. It was working fine when before I installed the Xtreme, but not after. The OS and CGMiner both see the GPU, and report it as working fine, etc. However when starting CGMiner in mining mode, the process locks up. Don't have the GPU at work with me. Will try connecting to the PCB tonight.

Does it lock up when starting the CGMiner? I would try something else that is graphic intensive, like Unigine Valley or a game. This would be to rule out an error with the CGMiner and also monitor your vrm temps, that can cause a hard lock. You could have also damaged the card when installing the Xtreme... ?
