i ordered the above stuff and a copper coppermine shim (3dfxcool.com). Where do i need to place the silver thermal paste?..i wanna put it under the shim on the chip and on the bottom of the alpha, or do i only need to put it in one place?. Thanks for any help.


Also, does anyone know if googlegear.com sells cB0 stepping chips?..or are all the flip chips cB0?.
 
You should only have to put the paste on the DIE of the processor. With a Flip Chip and slocket, you would only put a thin amount of paste on the blue square (the die) of the CPU.

As for googlegear, give them a call and ask. The worst thing that can happen is that they say no.
 
so i just have to put a little spot in on the raised part in the middle of my flip chip?..cool. Thanks man.

Notta problem. 🙂

The general rule of thumb is to keep the paste as thin as possible while still covering the entire die (blue spot). Too thick and it can actually hinder heat dissapation.
