Additionally, is AS II an adhesive or a paste? I got a hangup with using an adhesive, as it sounds too permanent. What if I change heat sinks?

this isn't an adhesive. it simply sits between the heatsink and the core. arctic silver also comes in an adhesive form but that shouldn't be used in this application.
