Courtesy of the "Freezer" method. Basically, there are now two halves of the core. One half on the heatsink, the other on the board.

Heatsink
Board

Edit: FYI, the board is an XFX 6600.

I would think cold would make it more brittle and prone to doing just what happened to you.

You're supposed to use a hair dryer to warm it up I believe.

I cannot see the links most likely because of comcast's latest screwup... But I am going to take a wild shot at this and say...

OWNED.

Most of the sites I've visited suggested freezing it. "Just twist, and it comes off like a charm." It came off! Ahh well, i don't suppose i could epoxy the whole thing back together, and RMA it 😀

Why did you use epoxy on an unprotected core?

It's permanent unless you have the equipment and know how to remove it and even then it's fairly risky.

i actually mixed 50/50 with AS5.

Why the heck did you use epoxy? The springs/clips already hold the HSF down, no need for epoxy unless its a gpu or northbridge.

well, i said it was an XFX 6600, so it's a GPU.

The only time I would use epoxy would be on video ram sinks and a gpu only if there was absolutely no other way to attack the the heatsink.

i got this, but it wouldn't fit on this. thus the epoxy.

So, you looked at the list of categories and thought Off Topic would be the most appropriate forum to post this in...

Just out of curiousity why did you not chose P&N?

lol, i'm not sure if that's some sort of insider's joke. is it because i committed such a moronic act that it deserves to be in that category?? 😱

I think this is appropriate for Off-Topic.
