So, I'll be away for a week, and I thought that this will be a perfect time to change my HSF as the thermal paste will have plenty enough time to set in. AS' homepage says that it needs a few thermal cycles to reach maximum performance too though. So the question is, will letting the paste settle for a week without turning the comp on decrease the performance?

It won't decrease it, but it won't do anything good either. Before you go, load up SETI or PRIME95 for a few hours.

Definitely try a DC project. They will keep your CPU at 100%, and they do some good for the community.
