i was wondering if it's okay to use AS5 with the stock hsf for a amd x2 3800+? i know the bottom of the heatsink has the paste on the bottom. was wondering if i should take that off before hand or just leave it on, or is there really not much of a difference in performance between what's on the heatsink and AS5? i already have the AS5 so i might as well use it if i should.

thanks

Theres not very much difference between AS5 and the thermal pad. Just that the thermal pad is free, and that the AS5 costs $! :D

it all depends on how well you apply AS5 or any thermal compound and how well you mount your HSF. Based on composition, AS5 should perform better than the stock pads, results will very, but i like that fact i have the potential for a couple degree drop from just applying AS5

Before you apply AS5 clean the heatsink and processor with 90% Isopropyl Alcohol. After it dries follow the AS5 instructions on their website.

Never seen much of a temp drop when comparing one after the other in testing.

I doubt the difference is that drastic.

It can be even greater.

Actually expect nothing drastic in terms of better temps at all!!
All the AS products uncluding Ceramique and others are just that thermal paste.

Alot of people myself included have used both AS5 and regular thermal paste that came with the various heatsinks that we use and there was no discernable difference at all in the temps.

There are so many variables involved in the use of the various thermal pastes that even thoughg that one review gives glowing marks to AS5 and other products the true bottom line is AS products are over rated......YES thats ny opinion based on using them.
