Arctic Silencer Rev3 Problems

anyone have problems with their arctic silencer rev3. I got mine in the mail and i think it over heated my card. Any tips on how to install it properly. I had to get my card "fixed" because some of the piplines died after installing the rev3. Is there a safe way to install it? Im scared to reinstall it on my card.
Any comforting (=?

They let you RMA the card after an aftermarket HSF install? Hmmm....

The safest way of ensuring it's been installed correctly is to keep your PC case on your desk with the side open, and checking that the Silencer fan is turning and that the HS itself is getting warm/how (meaning there's a good connection with the GPU, and it's transferring heat correctly to the HS).

You might also want to pry off the shim around the GPU to ensure good GPU-HS contact, but that's potentially dangerous (if your hand slips and you scratch some traces on the PCB).

well the fan on the rev is spinning, and it was getting warm but i think that was the problem it was trapping the heat or something, because i noticed that the stock fan has holes for air cooling in the fan down to where the gpu is.

wow excuse me buddie, the thing was pixalated from the first time i turned it on. And who the hell are you to be calling anyone a dumbass!? Screw you buddie, i come to ask a question not take insults from people like you.

Too bad, you're taking insults. You're nothing but a theif. You ruined a video card with an aftermarket heatsink, and you let the video card company pay for your mistake.

I killed a 9800 Pro with an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer last week; the fan just stopped spinning. But I didn't RMA the card. I went out and bought a 6800GT. Because it's not ATIs fault that Arctic Cooling makes a sh!tty product.

If I were you, I wouldn't expect anyone to answer your questions or help you out around here. Piece of dirt.

Now that puts my plan to get the VGA Silencer for my 9800Pro in doubts. What do you suppose is a good alternative (one that is silent, with much less importance on improving overclockability)?

I have a zalman heatpipe with the optional fan mounted on my old 9800 pro, its nearly silent and works well.

Zalman heatpipe. I had one on there, and replaced it for no good reason, really. It lowered my case temps like 2 degrees switching to the VGA Silencer. Not worth $350 for a new video card though. 🙁

You don't have to use a fan for the Zalman heatpipe. You can if you want. And you can be safe in knowing that even if that fan fails, your video card will survive, passively cooled by the Zalman.
