I have bought a system (1.4Athlon, SuperORB HSF) and it already has some white compound between the CPU and Heatsink (I asked them to put it there). My cpu temp is idling at 46-48C. I would like to get some arctic i/ii compound.

(1) Will this arctic i/ii compound make a big differenece, ive heard it can?

(2) Which Arctic Compound Arctic I or Arctic II?

(3) If i get the Arctic compound, do i just put it on top of the white compound? Or should I remove the white compound? If I have to remove the White Compound whats the safest way to do it w/o damaging the cpu?

Some say it will make a few degrees difference, some say it doesn't. :)

If you do get it, get the Arctic Silver II.

BY ALL MEANS, REMOVE the white stuff. :) Carbuerator cleaner works really well...

webart,

Here are some directions for using Arctic Silver II.

Just to re-emphasize Electric Amish's point, you absolutely should remove the existing white compound before applying the AS II. Refer to the link for advice in removing the compound.

best method for applying arctic silver is:

put HALF a pea sized amount on the die

spread it around with your finger in a plastic sandwich bag.
this way it spreads evenly and thin
