Arctic-cooling VGA question?

is it necessary to clean the yellow thermal pad from the Radeon core before installing the VGA cooler because I didn't! is it bad, will this damage the core or increase the temperature?

BTW I install the thermal comp. that came with the package.
 
yeah you should clean off the pad, thermal pads (or paste) should NOT be used twice.

scrape it off carefully, isopropyl alcohol (or however it's spelt, a.k.a. nail varnish remover) may help espeically getting the last bits off. Afterwards, wipe it dry then leave it for 5mins to ensure all the alcohol has evaporated. Then apply new paste in the usual way (a thin even layer on the GPU die)
