What do you think about the Arctic Cooling Super Silent 4 TC? I'm overclocking my processor and the temps sometimes go as high as 48c. Do you think this will help and keep things a little quieter or is it just not worth it?

Silent=Baad cooling

Try something much better like a Thermalright AX 478, a Vantec Aeroflow, Alpha 8942, Swiftech MCX-4000, etc.

I'm using one of those with my P4 2.53GHz processor. It's definitely very quiet.

I disagree regarding the "silent == bad cooling" comment. These quiet coolers target a low noise level with sufficient cooling, rather than maximum cooling regardless of noise. The Super Silent 4 TC meets that goal very well.

Nonetheless, if you must overclock then I'll have to suggest that you go with the Thermalright that Blurry mentioned. Toss on an 80mm Panaflo L1A or a comparable NMB or Silencer, and it'll still be reasonably quiet -- albeit not as quiet as the Super Silent.

I'm not overclocking my P4-2.53. The Super Silent works great for this sytem. But as mentioned above, if you are going to overclock then you need to be more forgiving of noise levels since you'll have more heat to remove -- thus, a large and noisier heatsink is usually needed. I'd rather have a quiet system, though, so no overclocking here...

Check out the Zalman CNPS-7000 series of coolers. They do a good job of cooling and are really quiet. I'd dare say that they're one of the best P4 air coolers - which also happens to be one of the most quiet.

The Arctic Cooling Super Silent heatsinks are a POS. The Thermal sensor does now work accuratley. We had a situation while testing the ARSS (arctic cooling super silent..) where our *STOCK* athlon xp 1900+ was hitting *55C* under idle temps with an ambient of just over 25C. The Motherboard alarm was constantly going off. The Thermal sensor does not work properly.

On another note, the FANS are very good. I love them, but I hate 'thermal fans' in general =\.

If you're going for decent performance and silent cooling (with an AMD cpu) look at the Thermalright AX-7 + a nice silent fan (Zalman 80mm fans, Vantec Stealth, Panaflo's, Papst...etc).

EDIT: Didn't notice the '4 tc' meaning P4 heatsinks - The AX-478 is a pretty comparable heatsink to the AX-7, but some older batches of the AX-478 did have some problems with them not being welded/'glued' properly.
