Well, I just installed a couple Silencers on my vid cards.
I put the "NV Silencer 1" on my Gainward TI4200 GS with no problems. Seems to work great, although I can't really feel the air blowing out the back...the fan only spins at 1500rpm.
I also installed an "ATI Silencer 1" on my 9700 Pro. The bottom of the outlet duct was crashing into a crystal, a capacitor and the power plug for the fan. I had to remove the bottom of the duct and trim it to fit. I also had to nibble a little copper off the base where it was crashing into a surface mount resistor (I just removed a tiny bit of material). Now the heatsink is in proper contact with the core. Seems to work great and obviously blows more air out the back of the case...the fan spins at 2000rpm.
Now, since I've gone through all that, I see Arctic Cooling has released Revision 2 of the Silencer series. By looking at the Arctic Cooling product info , they have redesigned them significantly. For example, the Rev. 2 version of the "ATI Silencer 1" looks like it would have fit my board without modification. I guess I should have waited (but I never can!).
Here are some drawings for those interested in the physical differences:
ATI Silencer 1 (Original - Rev. 1) It was crashing where red meets yellow...
ATI Silencer 1 Rev. 2
Has anybody got a Rev. 2 Silencer??? How does it fit/work???
