Been looking for a cheap heatsink upgrade for the wife's C2D box....not happy at all with the cooling capabilities nor the noise levels from the stock Intel heatsink.

But, I'm a tightwad sometimes and really don't want to drop $50 on her cooler as hers won't be OC'd much if at all.

Thought the AC Freezer 7 Pro was a great alternative, cheap with quite good cooling....but it's out of stock everywhere that has a good price on it, and has jumped in price in those places that still have a stock of it.

But I've found the Sunbeam Silent Whisper cooler and it looks remarkably like the Freezer 7 Pro.....so much alike, in fact, that I'm beginning to wonder if AC makes it for Sunbeam.....

Here are the two coolers (at Xoxide):

Sunbeam Silent Whisper

Freezer 7 Pro

Are they in fact the same cooler just refanned and remarked? Will the Silent Whiper perform as well as the Freezer 7 Pro?

Any thoughts?

Thx!

The fan blades have a slightly different shape. I do know that the Arctic Cooling fan has ceramic bearings and will run long n' quiet in heat.

Provantage.com had hunderds of Arctic HSs and fans, 80, 92 & 120, two months ago...Now none?

Performance-PCs has the Arctic Freezer 7 available for $19.99........I would recommend that HS for your rig.

I've searched ProVantage using every conceivable configuration of words and cannot even locate any Arctic Cooling product, much less a Freezer 7 Pro.

Interestingly, Sunbeam also states their fan has a ceramic shaft and bearing. Hmmmmm.....

Sunbeam's Whisper website.

And since Sunbeam is the parent for the Tuniq Tower.......might be worth taking a chance on a heastsink that seems to have been left out of major review sites.......esp. for one under $20.

Yeah, I know. I've crawled all over them, too. Seems the cheapest the 7 Pro is going for these days is around $40 shipped, or more. Cannot believe Newegg has the balls to charge $69.99 for the damned thing.

Well, I've about centered on the Silent Whisper, the Thermalright MST-9775, or the CoolerMaster Hyper TX. All are around $20-$25.

Don't overlook the Thermalright Ultra-90. It is essentially a smaller version of the Ultra-120 recently reviewed on Anandtech (and previously reviewed at Silentpcreview), and has proven to be an excellent cooler for the money, weight, and size.

I have one keeping my A64 3000+ at <45C at full load, passively. This is in a micro-ATX case with one PSU fan and a single 80mm fan at <1500RPM exhausting air.

$25 at svc.com: http://svc.com/ultra-90-775.html

I saw that one, too. It's definitely in the short list, which is unfortunately, growing as I look around..............hate that!!

I found a Scythe Andy Samurai Master for $19.99. Got decent reviews, of what I could find anyway....sort of middle-of-the-road, but again, for $20 or so, I'm definitely not expecting Ultra 120 or Tuniq Tower results!

I wrote to Provantage about the Arctic Cooling sitch and they said they aren't carrying AC products any more. I guess they must have gone totally DC... ;)

Between those two, I'd pick the Sunbeam -- never cared for Freezers!

IMHO, they're both kludgey looking, but...

Of this genre, the only one that does anything for me is the Cooler Master Hyper TX Socket 775.

It's just as ugly and cheap as those other two, but the shroud fascinates me... I guess. (blows air down on your PWM)

Anyway, you might want to check it out... ;)

Wow! That's the way I would go...

Those things are (ahem) cool!!!

The Andy Samurai is basically half of a Scythe Infinity, laid on it side... :D

Got a link? I'll buy a couple of them for that price, and stick 'em away in the closet...

Sold out, plus it was 1 per customer when they did have them. ^%$#&!

Guess I got lucky, because in between my posting about that cooler and now, I went ahead and bought one of the Andy's from Cooler Guys. It went OOS just after I purchased it from them, I guess.

So, my cooling "dilemma" for Deb's pc has been solved........thx all!

:)

Oh, and Vin....that was the $19.99 Andy I was referring to.... :(

Oh, well, I didn't *need* one anyway... but for the price, I would have bought a couple...

I think you're REALLY gonna like that Andy Samurai HSF!

And, you're probably the first person on AnandTech that's bought one, so do a review, okay? ;)

Heh!

Look what I found today...

Scythe Andy Samurai Master and Enzotech Ultra-X Coolers vs. Overclocked CPUs
Conclusion

From now on, two more air cooling systems can be deservedly counted among super-coolers.

The Scythe Andy Samurai Master is a very quiet, effective and easy-to-install cooler (and also the lightest one in this review). And although the numerous owners of Thermaltake?s Big Typhoon can be proud again because their cooler is no worse than the new Scythe in performance or price, I guess the new cooler from Scythe is going to find its customer, too. It?s sad it has limited compatibility with mainboards and may not be oriented properly in some system cases, but I just can?t seriously criticize the Andy Samurai Master, except for its somewhat steep price.

Guess he missed the $20 special too... :D

I have the Sunbeam myself and while it was a pain to get on, it works very well for the price. I got mine from the egg for 17.99 a few weeks back. It's cooling my e4300 @ 3GHz (1.35vCore) at 47C Full Orthos Load. That may not impress you, but considering I had the stock Intel HSF @ 62-63 (with AS5!) with the exact same setup I'm pleased. Solid 15C drop for under $20... Most other apps never get the thing above 35C or so (FEAR, BF2, UT2k4, etc)...I idle around 16C-18C. This is in a Ultra Wizard case with 120mm in back and 80mm in front w/ 68F House Temp.

Highly worth the money to me! Don't plan on doing a lot of on/off reseating with it though...the clips seem sub-par from stock Intel plastic.

I agree this is a great cooler for the price, I live in Canada and bought it for 18.01 + 6% GST and have been very lease with it's performance keep my Celeron D at about 37C idling and about 42C load with CPU Burn In or Stress CPU typically load is like 40C.

The only negative part about this cooler is the fact it is a PITA to mount correctly.
