I received the Arctic Cooling Freezer from New Egg. I have an FX-55 in a Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939 motherboard. My new CPU runs a little hot so I thought this might do the trick. The first problem I had was when I removed the old heat sink the CPU came right out of the socket with it. After about an hour of straightening the pins I was able to re-install the CPU. (I didn't realize it had so many pins).
Then I could not get the Freezer 64 pro to clip onto the plastic clips on the side where the lever is. I noticed the cylinder things (diods?) seemed to prevent the lever from going all the way down. I switched the lever to the other side of the heat sink and tried to install it again. No luck. I still could not get the clips on the side where the lever is to fasten to the plastic clips. When I pulled the Freezer 64 Pro off the CPU came with it. (Damn there's a lot of pins).
I was able to get my old heat sink re-installed and everything works okay. My CPU idle temp is 40-42C and under load is 60-64C. This is with no OC.
First Question. Are my CPU temps in a satisfactory range?
Second Question. Is there any method of getting the new Freezer 64 Pro installed without damaging the CPU or motherboard?
