Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro broke my heatsink mount.

I started buliding my rig that is listed in my sig, I installed all the components and was witing on a GFX card to boot it up, I got one today and opened up my case to install it, the heatsink was off the mount and the clip on side of the socket had broken off it and was lying in the case, I had the CPU lying in a corner of the room and had always handled it with care and never dropped it or anything. Any idea what I can do besides getting the mobo exchanged?
Edit: HERE

Man, I knew those things were heavy, but I never heard of them breaking the heatsink mount. Anyway I can't seem to find replacements for that kind of thing. Maybe you could try emailing your system board maker in the meantime to see whether they'll RMA the board or replace the mount as it seems to be defective.

I was looking at the mounting of that heatsink and too be honest with you...
I see noway that damage could have been caused by the heatsink.
That heatsink is not heavy.
All I can think of is that perhaps you didn`t mount it correctly or one of the holes the screws were suppose mount into was already stripped before you got the mobo....
Interesting to say the least!

Good luck with that.

Yeah well the day I got it and installed the HSF it was snugly fit, I took it out just to see how the contact was with the CPU and the paste was also evenly spread. Now I opened it and the HSF was dangling on just one end, I realized it was loose when it moved while I was plugging out the 12V line. I was surprised and I checked to make sure the HSF was locked and it was, I tried putting it again but I couldn't get it to latch on one end which is when I realized that the clip was no longer there and I just became so sad, I was finally gonna start up this system and it was broken before I could even power it up.

I know what you mean. Once someone gave me some new parts (P4 CPU, motherboard, RAM, case, optical drive) for Christmas, but the CPU was an OEM model with no HSF.

Um...there should be NO WAY the Freezer 64 Pro will break that mount unless you mounted it incorrectly. Four people I know (including self) have installed the F64P without breaking anything. 996GT2 has an AM2 motherboard as well and he hasn't broken anything. It's almost definitely your fault.

Im not saying its the Freezer's fault, it was just a sarcastic comment of sorts, if you can see in my first post I said I wanted to exchange the mobo (indication of mobo being defective) and didn't mention anything about the Freezer.

my freezer 64 pro cools like crap...(not to be off topic) worse than stock idle at 36-38c. And loud as hell at 2300 rpm. It quiet at 1200 rpm, but idle temps got 41+...

question: did you guys have to reverse the mounting bracket 90 degrees? seemed like a tight fit.

I see... sorry about that!

I'm afraid it's going to be a PITA tracking down a stock replacement, since they're so new. However, if you want to go with, say, an Ultra-90 or water cooling...

Thermalright AM2 retention bracket

Koolance adapter

BTW, I found this excellent page discussing the new AM2 heatsink retention frame...

FrostyTech snippet

*edit*

You know what? Comparing that Thermalright retention bracket with the one pictured in the FrostyTech article, I don't know why that wouldn't work as a stock replacement. All they did was add some extra tabs... ;)

Ordered the Thermalright retention clip from cheifvalue (their products get to me in 1 day since they are in NJ and I am in NY. the clip is the old 3 clipped retainer with the AM2 mounting mechanism, should also help in load balancing I guess.
