It's a little quieter...But the review earlier in the thread showed a slight improvement at both idle and full load, I experienced neither. But Their shipping was excellent. I'm just saying if you have the stock heatpipe...don't bother getting this cooler.

ok, I'm confused by the locking mechanism of this guy, it looks like it just rests in a purpendicular position, there doesn't seem to be anything for it to latch on to if I push it Parallel to the MObo. Anyone know the answer?

In this guide they make it look like it should be parallel to the Mobo, but I don't see how that is possible:

I just installed a AMD heatpipe HSF on a AM2 socket, the design is different on a AM2 versus a 939 socket. There is no tab for the lever to grab, so one just hopes it does not release itself. Now I'm talking about a AMD heatpipe HSF, but I think the lever is similiar on the AC HSF. I do have a AC 64 pro HSF on my 939 setup, I'll pop the cover later on to check it out.

This thing is a beast! My AMD 64 3500 runs at 25C idle and when maxed out rinning Prime 95 it only goes to 33C!!

does this HSF NOT cover the socket 754 Athlon64 from the biostar MB combo at newegg? The copper does not entirely cover the processor IHS. Is this normal?

Yes, it is only suppose to cover the center of the cpu. Remember all the other cpus with a lil 2mmx3mm square? They are the same way now except AMD puts that metal cover on there.

It does cover the 754 CPUs the way it should, my 754 works great with it. It does not cover the heatspreader in it's entirety but that is no problem.

mine was a little off center, but it doesn't seem to matter at all, this thing is great! I'm thinking about buying another for my gaming rig, although the temps are solid enough with the stock Opty 165 cooler

You do have a CPU retention bracket for your motherboard, correct?
I don't think the OEM CPU comes with the bracket, and this cooler doesn't either.
I believe all Socket 754/939/M2 motherboards have to come with the bracket.

Other than that, you're all set.

Great. Haven't bought the MB yet, still picking one, I'm torn between keeping my old game system Athlon 2200+/7600 GS AGP/1GB DDR and building a new FX-55 PCI-E system in my unused Sonata case, and upgrading the old system to a 939 MB/FX-55/7600 GS system. Complicating things is that I might still be able to return the AGP 7600 GS and replace it with a new PCI-E card... better decide this weekend I guess.

just as a word of caution, this thing is HUGE!!!! they were saying how big it was big words cannot describe. i got it for my 754 3000+ and the stock HSF sucks, it's loud and doesnt cool great at all then i bought this thing, it's big so some might not be able to fit but it cools so much better and it's so much quieter than the stock spooling up

Retail CPU's do not include the MB bracket, just the fan and Heatsink.
