Wow I have been trying to buy the Accelero S1 for a while but it's been out of stock EVERYWHERE. As the best cooling for 8800GT, I wasn't going to settle for anything less.

Then I see that they have the new Exreme version which spanked the TR HR-03!!

Yeah HR-03 is by no means a bad choice. I just didn't like how it was almost 2x the price of a superior S1... not trying to rub it in!

It killed me when I found out the price. Because I wanted a CPU cooler too and I would have been able to get a AC freezer + S1 for the price of my HR03.

Its mostly because I used the HardOCP review to base my purchase. So I was picking basically between VF1000 and HR03

Had a thread up in C&C about it when it was announced a week or so ago. It's really just insane IMHO. Like the new Scyteh Orachi. It's like the heatsink manufacturers are having e-penis wars or something.

what's the point of these massive coolers? My VF900 may cool 8-10*C higher under load, but even that is substantially cooler than stock, increasing the longevity and overclockability of these cards. Has the e-penis war really come down to cooling?

Considering one myself, but not sure of the OC benefit. I can do 612/1000 on 8800GTX stock cooler presently.

While I think the Accelero "Extreme" has pushed the ridiculous envelope, when heatsinks such as the S1 and HR-03 can passively cool an 8800...yeah I'll drop my VF900 for one any day.



On a side note, I find it interesting how all those euro sites are selling the less capable S2 for MORE than the S1...perhaps their S1's aren't the rev2 and thus less compatible with the newer cards?
