I haven't put it on yest but it looks like a nice layer of some sort or thermal grease is allready on it. Have any of you used this stock grease and how is it? I do have some Silver 5, but if the stock is good why mess with it.

i've read that after it sets in it actually works very well, idk about how it compares to as5 though; imo just use the stock paste and after awhile if it "sucks" then replace it with as5

It's Arctic Cooling's MX-1 paste, which from my testing is actually slightly better than AS5 by a degree or two.

The problem with AC's pre-application of it on the HS base is that there's much more than is needed. When I installed mine the MX-1, like the pic in this review, oozed out around the sides of my CPU. I re-installed it after scraping off the MX-1, cleaning the HS and CPU, and re-applying less. AC should include a tube of MX-1 with the HS instead.

Thanks for the info. It is a open box from newegg I got for 12.00 a few days ago. I may just wipe it off and do the 1 drop method with AC5.

I would use the stock thermal paste. It works better than the AS5 for that particular HS.
