For starters, does anyone know where I can take a look at these two players? Neither Circuit City nor Best Buy seem to carry them.

Anyway, here's what I've got.

The x5 comes up at $300 at Newegg, with the gmini400 at $310 less a $25 rebate at newegg, so they're both similarly priced. Both are 20GB, and both play video (which is important to me).

The x5 has a built in FM Tuner (the archos does not it's built into the remote which is sold seperately) and seems to have slightly longer battery life from what I've heard (~14hrs vs. ~10hrs for music and about half that for video), but I've heard the gMini400 has better video playback (30FPS and 2.2" screen vs. 15FPS and 1.8" screen).

So, I'm left in a pickle here deciding between these. Does anyone have any experience with either or any opinion on the matter, or know where I can take a look at one in person?

Hopefully in bumping this as well someone who has had experience with either product can give some info..

i saw the gmini 400 at compusa last december, don't know if they still carry it. i pretty much instantly fell in love and now own one and don't regret it - it's really a sweet little gizmo. things i like about it:

- size!
- saves pix in full size, down-scales 'em back for display on screen, but you can basically use the gmini as a backup device for your digital pix!
- saves video in a relatively high-res format (i think it's 720x?) so playback looks great on a tv.
- i think the cf slot is a very nice feature, since my digicam supports cf it makes it easy to back up my pictures in the field.

one thing, i bought their remote/fm tuner and it's crap, it makes a really annoying buzz whenever the backlight comes on on the remote lcd screen, and there's no way to disable the screen - so, for instance, whenever you adjust the volume you get the buzz. takes the light a while to turn off and no way to adjust this either.
