Archos is already updating the six-month-old GamePad.

Archos this week confirmed its GamePad 2 tablet, which is set for launch later this month. This will be the second Archos GamePad released this year, as the first iteration, the Archos GamePad, was only launched in March of this year. Still, the arrival of the GamePad 2 isn't exactly a surprise, given the specs were actually leaked online in late September.

Archos says the new GamePad 2 will feature a 7-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display, a quad-core Cortex A9 CPU clocked to 1.6 GHz graphics paired with quad-core Mali 400 MP4 graphics, 2 GB of RAM, two analog thumbsticks, a D-pad, six additional front-facing buttons, four shoulder buttons, stereo speakers, built-in mic, HDMI out, WiFi, and 8 GB or 16 GB of storage (plus additional via microSD). These specs match up perfectly with the rumors we heard a couple of weeks ago.

The original GamePad used a dual-core Archos Cortex A9 CPU (also clocked to 1.6 GHz), had a 7-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive display, had 1 GB of RAM and Android Jelly Bean. Archos says the new model has improved battery life but did not dish the deets on battery size on the new model.

The GamePad 2 is launching in Q4 and will cost $200, or £179.99 in the UK. According to Pocket-Lint, the device is scheduled for European availability at the end of October. We'll keep you posted on that one.

so do anyone in here know about this product ?

Ok, I already own the Nvidia Sheild.
I absolutely LOVE this machine.

BUT.....despite Nvidia's intention, the machine will never fit in anybody's back pocket.
I live in Vegas and the whole bookbag on the back of the grown man thing looks kinda outta place here. So, im seriously thinking about picking up one of these on day 1. But, I am having serious problem trying to figure out the performance of this Archos device as compared to the Shield.

My research so far just based on the tech inside of the Gamepad 2 suggests that this machine's performance is just on par with the samsung galaxy 3. Meanwhile, the Shield literally trounced the galaxy 4 in performance tests.

Can someone please clarify if the above is indeed true?

Also, I would like to hear from others who are considering this device for primarily gaming on the go and heavy duty hardcore emulation tasks. If I buy this, im primarily going to be using it for both business and emulating ps1, nds, gba, n64, and most of all PSP gaming on the go.

The Shield already does all of this at near perfect speeds for PSP and 100% perfect for everything else. But, then again do I want to walk around with that thing in my hands...

Thanks

Anyone gotten more info yet? This fits my needs much better than a SHIELD or even a Moga + phone, since I'd rather my gaming NOT be interrupted when people try to call me, text me, message me, Tango me, and otherwise figure that me not answering has nothing to do with me being busy and everything to do with them not pestering me enough.

The SHIELD doesn't excite me, too much Gameboy, not enough tablet, touchscreen games look like they'll be too awkward. I figure the buttons can also be rigged to control Kindle too.
