Arcade Stick for Xbox 360/PS3

Guys,

I want to get an arcade stick for the Xbox 360 for games like SFIV and Tekken 6 but the only good arcade stick I found was "Arcade in a Box" (http://www.aiabstore.com/) which sells them for about $180!!! That's almost the price of a brand new Xbox 360!!

The cheaper arcade sticks I've seen @ Fry's or Best Buy are lame because they have miniscule joysticks.

Has anyone tried the Arcade in a Box 'arcade stick'?? If so, is it worth ~$180?

With the upcoming release of Super SFIV (April 27, 2010), I really want to get one but I'm just a little ticked off about spending ~$200 for just an arcade stick!

The generic name of the stick JackBurton is recommending is Mad Catz Tournament Edition FightStick (often abbreviated as TE). What exact graphics/branding it has doesn't matter for the performance. I have it too, and it is a very good stick.

The other excellent choice is the Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE.

I'd have rather bought the EX-SE than the TE but I don't live in the US and couldn't get it without importing.

arcade in a box is okay i've used one. it's simply all happ parts so it feels very american.

i am actually going to be picking up a TE stick at some point very soon, trying to find a deal on one of em. i currently have a custom one i made that uses all sanwa parts.

for $200 arcade in a box is not worth it IMO. after using japanese parts and getting used to them, they are much better than the happ parts used in AIAB sticks.

I've got one for sale in the FS forums, *shameless plug*

Love the stick, I just don't play enough fighting games.
If only we were on the same continent I'd buy it before Baasha can. 🙂

I'm actually going for a plan B of sorts, I bought a used standard edition Fightstick and will replace all parts with Seimitsu. It's a good opportunity to also do some visual mods to my TE and replace the Hori buttons on my RAP with Sanwas.

I have returned so much MadCatz stuff it's crazy. First a memory card then a steering wheel and then, yes, I bought the Marvel vs. Capcom TE stick. Up and down movement was horrible. I will never buy a MadCatz product again.

What?

MadCatz stuff is generally terrible, but the TE stick had very little MadCatz produced components. All the components that mattered were made by sanwa... some of the best joysticks and buttons on the market.

It's possible you've got a defective stick... I would've just exchanged it, but that's just me.

The components were made by Sanwa, true, but from what I understand it was still assembled by MadCatz and it's put together with their typical level of QC.

Other MadCatz products do have a bad rep, but in the case of the stick I believe JasonCoder just got unlucky. Both fightstick models have a careful internal design. It's not shoddy work with some Sanwa parts sprinkled on top.

For anyone reading this who is interested in the standard edition fightstick, note that it comes with a b-quality stick and buttons you should almost consider placeholders. They feel bad - even worse than I expected - and reportedly break a lot. But the case is solid, electronics are the same as on the TE, and high quality parts can just be dropped in.

being in the sf4 scene pretty big time locally, i have seen tons and tons of TE sticks.

those things are solid as hell. i've probalby used like 4-5 different ones myself, and seen over 30 of them, and i've never ONCE heard of someone talking about the quality being poor, and actually the exact opposite. and most of these people know how bad mad catz reputation is.

as others have said, the parts aren't mad catz cheapo rippoffs. they are sanwa parts, and the cases are very solid as well.

even though i have my own custom built joystick w/sanwa parts i am going to be purchasing a TE stick very soon.

the question now is though do i shell out the extra $$ for the SSF4 edition, or do I just get the older one since it's cheaper.

I have 2 madcatz TE sticks ( 1 SF and 1 MVC) and they are awesome. I also have 1 Hori Real Arcade Pro modified with Sanwa buttons. I don't like seimitsu sticks for fighting games.

All this and as Purbeast can testify, I suck at Street Fighter lol.

I also have a Hori EX2 for 360 that I' m thinking about giving away to someone.

bl4ckfl4g i haven't played against you in a long time i don't think so i can't really comment 😛.

but if you weren't used to playing with a joystick, it can take a WHILE to adapt, if at all. i know some people who just can't get the hang of it, so if you still don't feel 100% comfortable with it just practice more.

you looking to sell either of your 360 TE's?

Yep, could have just been unlucky with the stick. For me though, at that point, I was just sick of MadCatz bs products. If it helps, the case was solid with lots of space. Didn't feel cramped.

nah I have 1 TE for 360 and 1 for PS3 and I have the HRAP also for 360.

Yeah I actually haven't played seriously for a few months but i just now can do the FADC ultra for Ryu so I'm getting better at my inputs. Still never did it in a match though, Needs more practice.

*cough* I have a TE stick that I'm about to put up for sale today or tomorrow for $90 shipped. Has an orange bubbletop and octagonal restrictor plate (i still have the original square), but otherwise stock.

I love that stick, but I've got no time for fighting games anymore.
