That's gross. Thank goodness Austin has a smoking-ban. You can't even smoke in bars! (I don't visit arcades, anyway.)

Yeah, you used to have the cigarette burns all over the machines from people setting them down while they played. All in all, it was pretty gross.

I thought it added to the warm rustic feel of arcades back in the days.

I used to work in one of them back in the day (not a bad high school job really). Thankfully it was non-smoking, you'd just have to walk through the tunnel of smoke outside the front door to get in.

But yeah, there was something classic about having to line your quarter up on Mortal Kombat II and wait 15 minutes for your turn while a huge crowd of people crammed around the machine looked on.

That takes me back to how many times I played pinball in bars with a cig laying half on the glass, half on the lockdown bar. Nice thing about that is with the lit end on the glass, it didn't cause any damage. Never had ashtrays on pinball machines.

I remember those days. Most arcades were smoke-free, but the bars, skating rinks, bowling alleys, etc all had machines with cigarette burns on the cabinet.
