Arc100 power consumption fixed by firware update?

Hi

I've read the arc100 review on Anandtech which results in very high power consumption for this SSD. I wonder if any firmware update changed anything

There are a lot of deals on the Arc100 - 250GB for like $50-$60 making it a very good option

Any clue?

The reason for high idle power consumption lies in the controller silicon itself, so no firmware can fix that. Ultimately it depends on which is more important for you: saving some $ or longer battery life.

Are you sure? Unoptimized firmware can simply make result in higher consumption even when idling. Maybe like in this case according to Crucial - link:
"Better Power Management

We made some power consumption improvements as well. The first change corrects instances where some systems would bring the drive out of standby prematurely, drawing power unnecessarily. We also identified certain systems that were drawing power during standby. The second change (isolating a particular power pin during standby) stops that power draw. For affected systems, this can extend battery life significantly.
