Arabic or Latin?

I'm trying to decide between 3-4 semesters of Arabic or Latin. I'll be going to law school after my BA is complete (which is a History Major with Philo+Math minor).

Latin may have some use for various law terminology, but Arabic is somewhat topical and it's different/interesting.

Any recommendations?

I did Latin at school and it was awesome, but in this case i'd say Arabic ftw, if you think you'll actually get anything meaningful out of that amount of study...

You don't really need latin to pick up the expressions they use in law. You can write them out in a few pages

Boom there you go.

Edit: on second thought, that list isn't so complete. I see some obvious ones lacking ;)

As an attorney I can tell you that taking a year of Latin will help you this much [ ] in law school. I suppose if you want to work for the FBI/CIA/NSA then Arabic might be more useful.

Latin ftw, Arabic is a dead language..

at least he's not studying chinese. now THAT is a dead language (esp mandarin)

Ok, first of all regarding Chinese I think you're making a huge mistake, since China is a growing power, and knowing Chinese may benefit you in business world.

To OP, as for Latin Vs. Arabic, I'd go for Arabic, yes its a disgusting language, but your enemy speaks it, and I think its very important to know your enemy + if you know it real well, you might be able to get a job with the CIA/FBI etc. which can be a nice opportunity.

Latin can help you interpret the basis of a language.

Arabic is much more useful than Latin in the present world (unless you want to be celibate).

Spanish would be better than Arabic given the amount of Hispanic influence that is impacting the US nowdays.

Spanish might be more beneficial. You can always work as a translator. It reall helps if you are in an area where people speak spanish that you can talk to. If you dont use a language all the time it is basically worthless. In some parts of the country speaking spanish makes you more employable.

Why is it a disgusting language? Hebrew sounds more disgusting to me.

Latin because then you can say stuff like:

pro bono

caveat emptor

Arabic is a lot harder then you think. It will take you a lot longer to learn the language and and be useful. I learned Arabic since I can ever remember and always sucked at it. I know like 4 languages and that is the hardest one, and the one I use the least.
I would go with Chinese if I had a choice.

Have you ever had someone correct you on your latin pronunciation? I did in a calc class, it was funny because she is like "It is pronounced this way". I laughed and said "Latin is dead, nobody knows how is it really pronounced". "But that is how Catholic priest pronounce it so it much be the original form"
