AQUOS 80" - Anyone have it?

I don't have the 80" model, but I've seen both the 80" and the 70" - 732U side by side. The 80" is essentially the 732U but 80". The picture is pretty good, however the one I saw suffered from very bad uneven backlighting. As it's the only one I've seen it's hard to say if this is normal or not. It was VERY noticeable.

It also has very few features that the 70" models do have and costs quite a much more than even the 735.

I ended up getting a 70" - 735U (top end of these) with 3D. The picture on this TV is simply amazing. Search around on the AVS for any info you need on these models. The general consensus of the 80" is that it isn't that great and you'd be better off spending your money on the 734/735 (also, the only difference between the 734 and 735 is the 3D). I got the 735 because I got it for $100 more than the 734 with 2 pairs of glasses and a blu-ray player included.

I do not regret this purchase at all, best TV I've seen in ages.
 
in the 80 inch range, does it maybe make more sense to go with a Projector setup? I realize projector is more work, and generally requires a light controlled room, but ... might be worth considering ...
 
I guess one question is: Do you want to go bigger than 80 if you have the possibility? I love my projector, even though my room isn't completely light controlled, it still is awesome (mine is set to about 130" right now).

Also, I noticed you're in wauconda...awesome! I'm up there all the time (live in Arlington Heights) 🙂

Well if you got $4500 an 80" LCD would be a pretty sweet setup. I had to pay a similar amount for my 82" DLP TV (ugh so unsexy).
 
The 80" Sharp is using older technology than it's smaller brother (70"). It's bigger, but not better, and does suffer from uniformity issues.

I see people looking at this TV everyday I'm at work(work in Home Theater at BestBuy), for the fact that its an 80 Inch TV, and nothing else.

I agree with ImpulsE69 on you going for the Aquos 70 inch, 735U Model(240HZ, 3D), its a much better TV.

Or since your a plasma fan, why not go with a Panasonic 65" Viera VT Series? By far my favorite TV on the market, and you won't be disappointed with it either.
 
The 80" has SHIT picture.
It is the most basic LCD scaled up.

I will be waiting for either an Quattron 80" or one from Samsung.
(Though I have been looking at comparable sized Panasonic Pro Plasmas)

I am fairly sure I am going to buy the Elite Pro 70 (upgraded Aquos) in the next week or so from cl*******pl**** (name withheld to not feel like an advertiser) as I want to take my elite plasma into the bedroom as the LCD is too bright a lot of the time.

If you haven't had a chance to look at one of these the picture is amazing. If you are going to spend $4500 on the 80 inch you can get the 70" for a couple of g's more and in incredible quality. Otherwise like someone said go for projector if you want huge and clear.

NOW we're talking. Arguably THE best not only LCD but TV on the market. Very nice choice. If I were you though, I would wait until the cyan and pulsing issues have been resolved.

Word all over the web is that the picture on that Elite is no better than the 734/735. I haven't actually seen one in person though.

The word you're hearing are from the people that have a bad case of sour grapes. The Elite is superior to the 734/735 in just about every way.

Well if someone has paid that much for something, they should probably like it. I would assume there's a reason they don't. Many people are complaining about clouding on the 700 series as well, although I do not seem to have that issue.
 
Never cared for the picture on Sharp LCD\LEDs, but I'm 90% sure that's because they have fast motion or whatever on my default, giving everything that terrible video camera look. Why not a Pioneer plasma?

Pioneer doesn't make plasmas anymore. Their last model was released in early 2009.

No, Pioneer does not make plasmas anymore, no matter how many people you know. You can pick up a used plasma or even try to score a new one, but it really depends on WHICH Pioneer plasma you are looking for or if you will just settle on any Pioneer plasma.

And at this point, I wouldn't even try to score a Pioneer plasma, I'd just get a Sharp Elite. ESPECIALLY since Pioneer never made a 70" plasma. 😉

I have a projector and it's really awesome - if you can handle light control. Having a ridiculously-sized screen is just amazing. My Mitsubishi also shoots up to 20', which is awesome outdoors, although we typically use a 12' inflatable screen.

The other option is rear-project DLP's. I got my parents a 60" Mitsubishi DLP last year and it has the best picture I've ever seen. The Kuro plasma did better with CG/cartoon type of stuff, but the DLP won for skintones. And it was like $600. They also sell an 82" model and a 92" model:

I'e looked into thses Mistz TV's a bit. The 92 doesn't list as DLP so I pictured an oldschool projection type?

I like the thought of overhead projection with a screen but this is for our TV room which will be used by our your children 75% so it has to be SIMPLE.

I finially seen the 80" atFy's today and was impressed with the sie but not much else for +4K. I really need to decide soon but I can't see me going with this TV.

At what point will 2012 models be released??
 
2012 models will be announced at CES (most likely) which is in like 3 weeks
new models will generally become available in April/May some take longer and come out in June/July - these are normally the larger ones.

however last year they seemed to have a good stock of every size pretty early.
