so my tire tread depth are like 3/32 and 2/32.

I figure that is really bad, so it is time to change them. due to the high cost, I'm only going to change 2 this time, and 2 the next pay period.

does it matter which one I change first? is there a typical order that people usually go by??

Not always.

What kind fo car do you drive? Front wheel drive you typically put your best tires on the front and rear wheel drive gets them at the back. Steering comes from the front so if you blow a front tire you have no steering but if a back one goes you'll be able to steer to some degree (maybe not much).

AWD I dont think it matters really if only 2.

That is a myth. Good tires should be in the rear.

okay thanks. so my next question is this.

as I said before, the treads are 3/32 and 2/32. is that REALLY REALLY dangerous to drive? I do plan to change all 4, but It just needs to be a few weeks apart. Is driving with 2 wheels of this tread very dangerous??

No, it shouldn't be dangerous. Just replace the tires when you can.

Couldn't you just set aside the money you have available currently, wait the week or two until your next paycheck, and then get all 4 replaced at the same time?

That way, the mixed tread you're worried about is a non issue. :)

As long as your not showing cords it will be fine to wait the few weeks till you save up the money. Bald tires are more susceptible to puncture but they aren't likely to asplode than they were 2 weeks ago.

I am not an expert and my opinion shouldn't be used in the place of professional help.

low tread depth is only dangerous in the rain. if it's dry you're perfectly fine. mine are about the same depth right now. need to look at some new ones. too bad tires cost so much.

I read the article and my understanding of it is that if you're not a very good driver and don't know how to control your car, you should follow their directions.

If you've got two tires that worn down on your car, and you're going to drive faster than conditions allow, the Darwin theory will hopefully come into play.

If I had to replace two tires only on my FWD car, they would go on the front.

That article has no reference to any condition other than rain. And yes if you drive in rain 100% of the time and have no idea what hydroplaning sure throw them on the back no big deal.

And to you my friend have YOU ever had a tire blowout on the freeway? if a front tire goes you have 0 steering whatsoever so if there is a curve your going right into it. If there is another car, person, or anything in front its a done deal. Now if you lose a back tire you maintain some difficult steering but you have enough to avoid some collisions. Now if it blows and you start jerking the wheel like a madman that will result in a fishtail --> 360.

I've had a mustang since I was 16 so ive gone through more than my share of tires / flats / blowouts from running the back down to the wire. Ill take a rear blowout anyday over a front.

I would think that the good tires would go in the front as thats where the steering is. also with braking, most of that is done upfront. Of course you have more weight up front with the engine so the pressure on the road should be greater up front. what gains are there for having new tire on the back? If you have no control upfront, you are fvcked. if you lose traction in the rear you can just steer yourself out of trouble.
