Check out the flash animation

Now, im sure most of you have read Gabes recent comments regarding the detonator 51.75s, and Nvidia's offical response but I really do have to say, having seen this first hand it confirms to both myself and Veridian that the new detonators are far from a high quality IQ set. Alot of negative publicity is currently surrounding Nvidia, and here at driverheaven we like to remain as impartial and open minded as we possibly can, but after reading all the articles recently such as here coming from good sources and experiencing this ourselves first hand, I can no longer recommend an nvidia card to anyone. Ill be speaking with nvidia about this over the coming days and if I can make anything public I will.

Interesting.

Glad I bought a Radeon 9800 instead of Nvidia based card.:)

ouch.
so much for no det 5x.xx half-life 2 test (valve was right not to let reviewers test those even if nvidia was pi$$ed).
nvidia has his back to the wall now. they better bring the nv40 fast...

This crap no longer surprises me, the last few months has been one Nvidia shenanigan after another. They seem to like running themselves into the ground. Too bad. :(

we all know that det50 wasnt gonna magically add frames, it reduces IQ AGAIN to churn out more frames.
Nvidia has no problem reducing IQ to get the FPS

I wonder how they're gonna explain this one.

Was DriverHeaven supposed to be renamed NvidiaHeaven or some crap of that nature?

Not after a comment like this:

BTW, this is kind of a repost as I put all this info in the main HL2 thread...

BTW, I also love how Tom says it's up to Valve to fix this mess now:

Because of the ongoing discussions regarding "legal" or "illegal" driver optimizations, some people lost trust in NVIDIA. The new critics from Valve won't help NVIDIA to get this trust back. But it's also up to Valve now to offer a solution and a more in-depth explanation to the million owners of NVIDIA cards as to why their cards perform so badly with Halflife 2 at the moment.

Because it's TRUE. The GFX series has performed GREAT up until we get these HL2 results. THe 5900 simply flies through Ut2003. That's why the average person isn't going to say "My pipelines aren't well designed and implemented!" They're going to say "This game SUCKS. Joe Bob, tell your 30 kids not to buy it." And BAM, Valve loses $1000 right there. It IS up to Valve to get HL2 to run on on the hardware available... it's even the predominant hardware!

Up until now, accusing the hardware manufacturer of wrongdoing because a piece of software performs poorly has been unheard of.

Call me blind, but what's the difference? The color seems a little washed out on the 51 drivers, but it doesn't seem like anything a proper gamma calibration couldn't fix.:Q

Apparently you weren't around pre 9700 ATI. I'd have to say that if every development team has to spend 5X coding time on one piece of hardware over the competing piece just to make it run at all, your going to see alot more: Check NV = DX8, Check ATI = DX 9. Done.

Actually, in terms of the desktop market, Intel makes the predominant hardware. And when it comes to the mobile market: ATi.

VALVE has already done enough, has already given more time to nVidia than anyone else. Would you actually have VALVE push the release back another 3-6 months while it attempts various work-arounds? Face it, NV3X hardware is a complete failure!

Unrreal 2003 is a DX8 game - not a DX9 game...

And you still do'nt see it - Valve DOESN'T want to lose that 1000$ right there which is exactly WHY they spent five times as much working on the NV-specific path versus the DX9 path

If you still cannot see it - I would question your ability to make hardware purchases.

I don't see why you can't say NV3x hardware DOES suck when it comes to DX9. The more Nvidia does this it will not help

their best bet is to hope they will not FUBAR NV40 up

That's kinda what I thought... just needed some driver applet color\brightness tweaking.

NV3x will shine through, that's my bet.

The most obvious degradation is on the right vertical fin -- det 45 it has diagonal stripes, det 50 the stripes have been "optimized" away just like the fog in Half-life 2.

Wow... you're right....

Is there any way to get Windows to call a Radeon 9800 Pro a GeForce FX5900 ?? Ya know, just in device manager and stuff?

The right vertical fin stripes dissapear also with the Radeon drivers. Compared to the Nvidia 44.03 drivers they compared it to.

LOL @ our #1 nVidia fanboi! Read very slowly now...

nVidia.....hardware....has...terrible....DX9.....performance. The....HW....is.....not...DX9....compliant....

HL2 is one of many DX9 games that will ALL run poorly on nVidia cards. They are not DX9 compliant.

Valve spent 5X as more time time get the game to run on the FX cards.

Get it???

Probably not.

hahahahahahah. wow nebor, you really should email nvidia and ask for an nebor@nvidia.com email address. you're their #1 supporter here on anandtech, no matter what kind of evidence is shown.

btw, why do you ask? wanna buy a radeon9800 pro and call it gf fx 5900 so you can still consider yourself an nvidia fan?

The 3Dfx curse strikes a second time. At least Nvidia doesn't have the whole piggybank invested in graphics.
