NEW YORK (Reuters) -- PepsiCo Inc. will spell out that its Aquafina bottled water is made with tap water, a concession to the growing environmental and political opposition to the bottled water industry. According to Corporate Accountability International, a U.S. watchdog group, the world's No. 2 beverage company will include the words "Public Water Source" on Aquafina labels.

Most all bottled waters are just normal ground water that's been run through a reverse osmosis filter.

Question is what do they do with the waste water from the RO? hmmmm, maybe bottle sell it as water with "minerals added".

Brilliant!

Good. I'd like to see people go back to drinking tap. It's too bad that so many are under the impression that bottled is better.

You'd better hang on to that impression if you travel in 3rd world countries. I've been to India.. bottled water IS better. regardless of whether its tap or spring or purified whatever.

edit: just to mention, if you drink the real tap water in india, you will be running for the toilet every 5 min

I don't waste money on bottled water. It is a joke, always has been. I still drink tap water that runs through a filter in my new refrigerator and the water tastes GREAT.

I was talking in the states actually. It's not like I'd drink anything but bottled water if I were to visit say.... Mexico.

True. I can't stand the taste of the tap water in Florida.

I actually saw a taste test done a couple years ago where the tap water from several large cities (NY was one IIRC) rated higher than the bottled water.

Doubtless people will continue paying $8/gal for it though. Noobs.

Although bottled water probably isnt any better/safer than tap water I drink it anyways. Tap water has a taste to it. Bottled water or Brita filter for me :)

Yea, I have the same kinda deal... I have one of those water dispensers with the jug on top.. usually people get those jugs delivered by truck, but we have a special jug that works like a PUR water filter.. so you just dump water in through the top and it filters the water into the jug, and cools it for dispensing... then you just put your cup under it and push the button, presto instant cold purified water :)

Drinking the tap water here in NJ is partially deadly, and if not its totally nasty.. purification is a must.

Aquafina comes from the tap and it still tastes like crap. Dasani is tap water but at least it tastes good.

I don't really understand the "waste money" argument, though. It's like...$2.50 for a 24 pack of bottled water. You get some nice re-usable bottles, portable water with a container you can dispose of, and piece of mind. Bottled water probably isn't worse than tap, and there's at least some consistency.

Most tap water is a penny or less a gallon. That 24 pack should be 250 gallons. Buy a friggen bottle that you will hang on to (heres the ones I see the most) and your plastic bottle is actually reusable for years.

Anybody ever drink D.C water. Especially when it's not cold. It smells like fish and taste like chlorine. You can commonly get it at the museums there.

I think the complaint is all those disposed of plastic bottles. I don't think many people re-use them. Kinda like plastic bags you get at the store. Landfills are stuffed with them so much so that there is a movement in California, which usually spreads to other states, to get rid of them.

Our tap water has a strong chlorine taste. That's enough for me to justify not drinking it straight out of the tap. Even the "icemaker filters" do little to remove that nasty taste. It takes a VERY GOOD carbon and sediment filter to make it palatable. One of these days, I gotta install my RO uunder the sink for better quality drinking water. (My fish always got RO/DI water, but we drink the garbage the city sends through the pipes!)
