So last friday night i come back to my apt only to find a giant puddle in the middle of my floor soaking the carpet. I'm too tired at that point so i wait until the next morning let the management and they send some kid over who messes around under my sink (although the wetness is nowhere NEAR my sink) and says "that should fix it" and says to let it dry and ask management on monday if they will pay to have carpet cleaned.
So I wait for monday and carpet is still exibiting signs of wetness. Go visit management again and they send another matenence guy over and he says he can't figure it out and he'll check upstairs the next day to see if their leaking something.
I check with him tuesday he says nothings leaking upstairs so he wants me to check my dishwasher (once again no where even close to wetness). I come back wednesday and say nope that didn't worsen it so he says he'll come by thursday and do something.
So here it is thursday and nothing has been done. I still have a wet carpet and my apt is starting to smell like crap. Its not a sewage leak or anything, I think its a leak in the roof that is coming through the wall (where the puddle starts forming). Today wrote the management a letter saying I am fearing for my health at this point and informing them that i would like a mold inspection in addition to fixing my apt.

Is there anything else I can do? Can't cancel lease without paying out for the next 6 months as far as i can tell.
I looked up local tenent laws and there are regulations about this sort of thing but who do you inform? cops? or some housing authority? I mean it seems like a week is wayyy too long to wait especially for something as serious as a water leak.

Cliff notes:
apt rug wet constatly all week from some leak...apt managment can't fix...what do i do now?

Lawyer.....try finding one that deals with those situations in the yellow pages.

Totally unacceptable on their part...and with those conditions I don't think you would have to worry about the payment for six months, because they are not fulfilling their part of the contract.

Fearing for your health?

It's water right.
Have them move you to another unit.

Water + wood = mold = adverse effects to your health.

One word, "mold." Tell the management that and "sick building syndrome." Then tell him you have a lawyer.

You could break that lease so easily since there are health issues in the apartment as it's starting to mold. Also you can check the phone book for a local tenant/landlord type attorney and ask them what they'd recommend you do.

Of course the health inspector and/or building inspector could stop over and help you out too.
