I'd get an E6420 on or after April 22nd. Save the $40 towards paying for the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme for some good overclocking luvin now that people are reporting better OC avg results with the E6420 vs. the latest E6600 stepping.

You can wait until Monday and they should have them for sure.

If I understand the C2D and many of the chipsets..lower multiplier with a higher fsb can affect memory latency thus some of the performance gains of higher fsb is lost

Bottom line is CPU Mhz is still King..period..you better off like Shimmishim
says with higher cpu speed and lower ram speed(than lower cpu speed to get ram speed/timings maximized)

3.2 ghz should be easily doable with good cooling on the newer e6600..but beyond 3.4 ghz is not as likely as earlier batches and they reported run "cool"

My e6600 is a L628A266..runs cooler than "B" chips but I need 1.5v(measured with a DMM) to reach 3.5ghz stable

6420 looks like 3200 is going to be a resonable OC with good cooling
e6600 look like 3400 is currently the typical speed for "safe vcore"

There is a huge misconception that e6600 easily hit 3600(never really true but earlier batches were more likily).....

OCing is always a big IF.....

Right now I think e6420 is way to go based on price and reasonable expectation of 3200-3400(expecting 3600 is too much...and 3400 is going to a stretch for many)
but remember at 3200...you are getting about 1100mhz overclock

6700 for $100 after 5-6 months, or buy MUCH-MUCH-MUCH better NEW CPU end of thise year for thise price?

^That will always generally hold true. In tech, you can keep waiting forever for the nextgen coming in 3-6-9-12 months. :p

Buy what and when you need it. If it happens to coincide with a price cut, that's just extra icing. My current rig is from 2002, so I've waited for my MUCH-MUCH-MUCH better NEW CPU. :)
