Well in our supposedly booming economy one would expect for fast food stores to remain stable but this is not the case with Subway. Now they do have a 44k strong global presence, however, these stores are all in NA.

The company has been slowly shrinking the Subway brand since 2016 so this is not a healthy trend for them. Do you suppose that their product portfolio is not keeping pace with customer expectations and customers are turning to their other brands?

They’re no longer the only choice in sandwiches. There’s a lot of options out there. Everyone has a sandwich menu these days. More choices opening like Panera Bread etc... If they want to survive they need to focus on more than just number of stores.

I think Panera is light years ahead of Subway, but also pricier. I honestly can't think of another fast food place like Subway other than Panera, and even that isn't the same.

that's what happens when your product is terrible compared to your competitors.

I honestly can't think of another fast food place like Subway other than Panera,

many fast casuals, ie Chronic Tacos, Chipotle, ShopHouse

In the sandwich space alone they have to compete against Togos, Jimmy Johns, Jersey Mike's. I imagine Jimmy Johns is tearing subway up on the low end and Jersey Mike's is tearing them up on the high end.

They've been out gunned. There are so many sub shops popping up and they're all better than Subway. Subway is just too bland with too little stuff on the bread. Adapt or die.

They way over-expanded in the past decade, at least here in CT (home ground for Subway).

Jimmy John's
Firehouse
Jersey Mike's
Quiznos
Blimpie's....and those are the ones I remember seeing on television and/or have visited...also Arby's is advert'ing heavy for their subs.

A list I found of Subway's competition (but I'm willing to bet most of these are more regional than national, but I could be mistaken.....)

Fair point. I live WAY out in the cornfields so Scrubway is the sandwich place, and I won't eat at jimmy johns (fucking trophy hunters can lick drumpf's taint), if there's a good local shop I try to throw some money their way.

Personally I believe that they were too slow in updating their product portfolio allowing their competitors to take market share from them.

They had a footlong for $5 thing going with coupons and I went into one, ordered up the sandwich and they wouldn't accept the coupon. I refused to pay what they then requested. Frankly, I'm tired of them. I don't like to watch them skimp as they put together a sandwich. The bread is bland and weak. I have sworn them off.

Personally, I prefer my skimping to be done behind closed doors ;)
But yea, you're pretty much dead on.

This, they are absolutely the worst sandwich shop and they are no where near the only game in town anymore.

I wonder if Jared affected this in any way.
Can't imagine it would be in any positive way, but yea, possibly. Pretty big blow to a company when your spokesperson turns out to be a pedophile.
Sorry, sidebar here, I just read up on him and he could be out of jail in ~ 10 years. WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!???!!
There are people in prison for MUCH longer who've committed a markedly less damaging crime.

right, and now back to your regularly scheduled thread, already in progress.

Maybe you saw the news... in my town (Berkeley, CA) the city council is on the cusp (they may have done it last night) of adding a $0.25 charge when you get take-out at any shop in town. They figure it will cut down on the litter problem. I think they are daft. It will have zero effect other than taking a quarter out of the customer's pocket and putting it in someone else's pocket, I don't know who. They will do this even if your take out container is recyclable cardboard, they don't care.

Does Quiznos exist anymore? I honestly haven't seen one in years, and they used to be everywhere.

Potbelly has branched out from the midwest and is kinda killing the midatlantic-east coast. They are miles better than Subway (and any other comparable sandwich shop, really), and I can't see Subway surviving among everyone else, outside of their presence as a gas station option...but then you have WaWa and Sheetz that are hipster proud when it comes to service station sandwich chique.

They are down to like a thousand stores. They had some huge law suit issues, food contamination etc... plus they just expanded way too fast imho.

Subway's mystery meat is pretty gross looking and the wonderbread seems fake. Cheapest cheese-like product ever.

I'm fortunate to have some awesome Italian delis around who bake their own bread, use boars head lunchmeat OR even roast their own. Plus it's nice it's a local shop with local owners and not some big franchise.

Home roast pork, extra sharp provolone, hot italian peppers and broccoli rabe on homemade bread is amazing.

Goddammit, I'm literally drooling now...
