i was considering this with my x25-m's but on P55 and with dual video cards I cant fit this into the computer because after splitting into 8x/8x lanes the last PCI-e 16x slot would run at 1x.

It's just a Sil3124 controller and an unusual place to stick the drives. That means that whatever raid it has is in the driver for whatever OS you're running. Were I to go a similar route, I'd stick with the P55 raid features.
