I am a bit new to the digital music scene. What apps are recommended for converting MP3 files to WAV files. I have a Creative Audigy sound card, and just spent the last half hour trying to find an app bundled in the Creative software that will do this basic task. Couldn't find one. Any help???

I used CDex. Search for it on download.com. It can do MP3 --> Wav and Wav --> MP3. Also can rip tracks from CD's to MP3 or WAV.

Winamp should have an output plugin. .wav writer or something to that effect.

I know it's cousin XMMS does.

another vote for CDex. Easy to use, and does just what you want. Also makes great mp3's at 160kbps sampling rate.

I'm assuming you are needing to do it so you can burn an audio cd? Most of the newer burning softwares can do it on the fly for you (Nero, EasyCD). Just drop you MP3's on to the track list just like you would a WAV file.

I need to burn MP3's stored on my computer as wav files so I can play them on my car stereo (the car stereo will play wav files but not MP3 files). I have Nero 5.5. Can you elaboarate on how to do this on the fly with Nero. If I just add the MP3s to my track list as you suggest and do nothing else, they will be burned as MP3 files, not wav files.

Start nero and select New Audio CD as the cd type. Then just drag your mp3's on to the track list. It won't burn them as MP3's, I promise. I do this all the time.

I've heard that a real good program to do just this is free dbPoweramp.

Says: dBpowerAMP software does not contain any 'Spyware' 'Add sponsorship' or other nasties - Free means Free!
