ok, so instead of presents this year, my family decided to give me some money and let me decide what to get. . . so here i am with about 400 dollars to spend and not knowing what to spend it on. Any suggestions? I want something cool in relation to computers. . . .herez my specs
AMD XP 2000+
ECS K7VTA v 3.1 MB (I know there are better mbs out there but this one gets the job done and hasn't crashed yet. ) *knock on wood*
786 MB pc 2700 Kingston DDR
Geforce 4 ti 4200 Gainward
Pioneer DVD-115
Liteon 40X burner
Creative SB live 5.1

I don't think there is any component in here that desperately needs upgrading . . . should i juss wait for the Geforcefx? any ideas? it doesn't have to be hardware. . anything .. . . thanx

New mouse? The Logitech mx 500 and 700 are awsome. You have a pretty nice setup there really, no need for any major upgrade. You could add a window and lights to your case if you want.

Yah, that all looks fine, as amdskip said, what are you actually staring at when you use your computer? If you don't have at least a 17'' LCD or a 19'' Flat CRT, you should be looking to that as your first and foremost upgrade.

Perhaps get a nice speaker set or a better monitor depending on what you've got now, otherwise I'd just save it as you have a solid setup right now.
Then again, if you have a crappy mouse/keyboard then it would definitely be nice to buy a new setup. Your using both peripherals constantly, it pays to invest in a very nice efficient and comfortable mouse/keyboard with all of the little accessories you may care for.

What everybody else said is very true. I'd recommend going for other peripherals that really bring you something new, not some boring upgrade that gives you 5 more fps or so...
What about a scanner? a digital camera? an external HDD for backups? just go and tour your local computer super store, you'll get ideas 🙂

definitely get an LCD display. I found an old bank account my family set up for me when I was much younger wit h 400 in it and I got this: Dell E171FP It's very very nice. I found some 15% off deal which brought it down to about $415, it was $440 including shipping and tax. I'm very happy with it.

Where would i be able to find more deals like that? thanks for all the input. . i am thinking of maybe a 17 inch lcd or nice PDA. I already have a canon digital camera. . .

My specs are pretty close to yours, my next upgrades are an LCD and good 5.1 speakers (Z-680, Megaworks, Klipsch 5.1).
