I'm considering purchasing a used VW GTI so I was ads browsing online. I liked this one but there is some damage on it (pic sent to me by seller):

I'm just curious as to how much it would cost to fix something like that. Would it even be repairable or would the entire panel have to be replaced? Knowing how much it would cost would help with negotiating a price if it comes to that.

Thanks

It's repairable but silver is a really hard color to match so if the shop only does the panel it might not match the rest of the side of the car. Looks like the bumper cover needs to be repainted as well. I'd estimate at least $1000 for a quality repair and repaint of the panel and bumper cover.

I'd just paint the small area where it was hit, and do a touch up on the bumper. (after having the metal bent back to shape and patched of course)

It'll be noticeable when you're close, but hard to tell from a few feet away. Much cheaper than getting the whole side of the car and bumper repainted, which probably won't look better since they won't match with the rest anyways.

Buddy of mine runs a body shop:

about 600 bumper is fine and doesn;t need paint and plastic never matches metal
the static makes the metalic stand up different

Yes, it's repairable, and the cost will depend on how much you care. If you'll be happy with the metal straightened out and touch up paint in just that area it will be significantly cheaper.

I'm fine with it straightened, but I probably something in between touch up paint and repainting and blending most of the bumper and panel.
