Appropriate Type of Signatures in the Workplace

I was thinking about putting my signature in graphic format and make it look a little better than you can do with plain text. Do you think an image for a signature is appropriate for a workplace environment? You see them all the time in forum atmospheres, but not really in emails.

Also, we don't have any guidelines on signatures and people where I work put whatever they want in their sig.

Only problem I could see would be for people that view email in text format?

If you do that, you should DIAF. Wastes bandwidth, nobody has EVER read an email signature more than once, and sets a precedent for people to do some really obnoxious crap.

don't get fancy, that bugs the crap out of me when i get emails with attachements that are just signature things

just stick with plain text. or you really don't need a signature, i can see from the "From:" thing who the email is from

You'd have to check with your company's policies.

All we are allowed to do now is a our name, office symbol, and extention number (text only). . . mainly because people had massive signatures that included their full name, rank, office symbol, squadron, group, duty title, extention number, and a 'quote of the day'. The signatures ended up being longer than most emails they sent.

Don't do images, that's tacky and unprofessional. My sig is the plain name, title, contact info, a legal disclaimer, and I threw a three character ascii art under there because I felt like it and it's practically unnoticeable.

My company has a standardized signature that just has the basic contact info in the company fonts...no need for more than that. I'm really surprised so many big companies don't, if my work with them is any indication.

Plus you can't copy text from an image.

Our corporate signature file actually looks pretty good. But probably only 1/2 of the employees use it, the others make up their own. I always have a laugh, especially the more obnoxious/tacky ones.

And it only goes on emails to people I have never corresponded with before, or in a first reply from anyone outside of the company.

never ever put up a pic in your sig, its annoying as fvck.
the CEO and the VP of my company does that and it annoys the crap out of me

here's a nice good way to do it:

<bigger font or bold> First Name Last Name </bigger font or bold>

Position or Job Title, Optional Department
Company Name
Company Address
Company City, Company State, Zip
Your Work Number
Optional Mobile Number
Optional email address (people should know how to hit reply)

That is the biggest problem. I frequently copy and paste new signitures into my address log. A picture would make me type it all out. I just don't see any advantage of doing it and I see several disadvantages.

Don't use an image. Don't stress so much over your signature either, nobody cares but you. 😉 I don't even use one, I only send e-mail to co-workers anyway and they know who I am and what I do. I just type my name at the end of an e-mail.

Just basic contact info at the end, I would say 95% of all my emails are in ASCII format anyhow so anyone sending me a image that's a sig is just wasting time.

Email signatures drive me nuts. Anymore people are cramming these rediculously kiss ass quotes in their signatures, along with their name, title, address, phone, mobile, fax, email (if I'm reading your sig then I already have your email you dumb fvck), favorite hobby, etc.

just go with a text based one with your name, title, company, phone and fax number. Maybe your company address too.

I think its funny when companies attach a page long disclaimer on the end of outgoing emails in 2-3 languages.

You made my day.

EDIT: You forgot the company URL!

For awhile the Sig virus was affecting my sig.

Thou I just used a text sig that had my name, title and extension.

I stopped using it altogether hoping others would do the same. I hate getting emails that say "ok" then the sig is 14 lines long of sig art and useless "Deep Thoughts"

I totally agree.
I dont care what your full name and home state is.
I dont care about your philosophy on life, death, love, government, or religion.
I dont care if you were Magna Cum Laoude or Magna Cum on my face and video tape it.
I'm not interested in your 5 work, 2 fax, 3 cell and 4 pager numbers.

And I do actually read the "From" box so I dont even need to see your first name on the box.

And while we're on the subject do NOT forward something a hundred times with one line of "LOL" and your freaking 5 line signature.
Especially if thats goodamn picture of the polar bear!
