Could I get some recommendations for an approachable flight sim that meets these criteria:

1) Approachable
2) LAN or Online
3) Works on old PCs (think: E350 Netbook)
4) Dogfighting
5) Optional: I find WWII planes the most enjoyable as they move slower and closer to the ground and engagements are closer.
6) BONUS: Multiplayer Co-op.

We found a game on the Xbox Live Indie Games, Flight Adventure 2, which models WII P-51s. The graphics are clean (simple but nice and functional) and while the aircraft controls fairly realistically it was adapted well to the gamepad. The flight experience is a lot of fun. But I only have 1 Xbox and it maxes out at 2 planes anyways.

I would love to find something similar on the PC that works on slower hardware.

I thought about loading up Battlefield 1942 but the flight model a step below of what I was thinking of (but a step above Blazing Angels). Maybe some of the older IL games would work (?) but I don't know how approachable those are. I have Birds of Steel for the Xbox 360 which is about what I am looking for BUT it is too new for the older hardware.

Any recommendations?

EDITING: By netbook I mean an AMD E-350 from 2011. 2GB memory and an AMD E-350 CPU/GPU. DX7/8 games run fine on the machine. Battlefield 2 runs at about 50fps on low.

The New IL2 games, Aces High, etc. are all relatively new and won't run on such modest hardware. It is too bad the Flight Adventures 2 game wasn't on the PC as it looks nice, plays well, but has modest system requirements.

You could check out this game - Take Off - The Flight Simulator. It's biggest advantage is low requirements and price. Although it is not complicated combat simulator as you were looking for. Take Off is a conversion from mobile. It's more like an arcade/simulator with various missions and ability to run your own airlines. Here is the game Steam shop webiste: http://store.steampowered.com/app/65...ght_Simulator/

The actual link.

Also, its getting mediocre reviews.
