So im going to getting my new PC on wednesday and I thought it would be a good idea to pass it before the board.

Anyway im going to be using it primarily for gaming, game modding, and film editing.

i was going with:

Athlon 64 3500 (s939)
MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum
1 GIG Kingston Value Ram PC3200
BFG Gefore 6800 GT OC
Sound Blaster Live Pro
80 gig Seagate SATA HD
Antec 1080 Performance Plus Case w/ 430W PS (Black)
Pioneer DVR-108D

-question: ive had problems in the past with running bootable cds from a dvd burner, will i have that problem?

-question: will i be able to run value ram in dual channel mode? or do i have to get a dual channel kit or wtv.

-question: how do i know if the ram is double sided or single sided. and which is better i read something about double sided going down to 333MHz rather than staying at 400 MHz or something along those lines.

thanks for you imput i appreciate it

You should be able to run what you have in DC provided it's 2x512MB of the same stuff.

I'm not sure about that double-sided module issue, but IIRC it's only for S754 systems when you try to run 3 sticks at DDR400 (probably wrong). It's likely a non-issue for you, though.

(By the way, if you want to overclock or think you might want to in the future, make sure the 3500+ is a Winchester 90nm core. 2.5 GHz seems to be virtually guaranteed on those.)

Anything's better than onboard, but a Chaintech AV710 is better for the price.

System looks great have fun.

To answer some of your questions

1) You whould be able to make bootable CD's from a burner
2) If you have two sticks of the same kind of ram it will work in dual channel. Dual channel packs just mean it has been tested to work in dual channel. At least 99% of the ram will work fine in dual channel

Looks good to me:)

Just a couple of comments, 80GB will be eaten up very fast if you are going to do video editing. Save a few bucks and look for a nice 160GB Segate (you can find them for $50 after rebate:) And you might want to get the new 90nm processor, from what I've read, they are the way to go.

Good luck.

you can get a hub that has 2 ports to do that. Connect them like this: cable modem -lan cable- 2 port hub -2 lan cables- 2 computers.

i would agree with Nessism, get at least a 160GB hard drive. just installing a veriety of games will eat up alot of storrage. also, get the NEC ND-3500A burner, it is cheap and good. other than that you are all good.

oh, if you want to save some money you should go with socket 754. its only a bit less performance and its alot cheaper. go with the Epox 8KDA3J or the Chaintec VNF3-250 motherboard if you want to go socket 754. also get the athlon 64 2800+. it will overclock to 2.25-2.4 GHz easily.

i went with the s929 because i figured i could upgrade my cpu atleast once before i want to get a new pc, ive had the one im running now for over 4 years.

also is the NEC a better choice over the pioneer. i heard they were neck and neck and that the NEC burned faster but the pioneer better quality.

my friend has a hub and he cant have both pcs surfing at the same time. so wouldnt a router be better?

If your mobo is designed to do memory in dual channel, then no problems. I have the same set of RAM that you are speaking of and they are great. I've been OCing with one 1 gb (2 x 512) and I've not had any problems. They are two sided and are matching pairs.

BTW, good luck, RTFM, and have fun;)

All the best.

Dude, That's a nice setup. It's very similar to the one I just put together ;). Your board will support RAM in dual channel, although you might need to upgrade the BIOS to v1.3 first. Most of the people who have purchased this board have had to do the following before being able to use the RAM in dual channel.

1. Boot the system with only one stick of RAM installed in slot 1.
2. Load up the operating system (usually Windows).
3. Use Live Update to upgrade the BIOS to v1.3 (latest revision).
4. Install the second DIMM in slot 2. Now your RAM will run in dual channel mode.

Also, you mentioned that you want to connect this new system and your old system to the Internet at the same time. This mobo has 2 gigabit ethernet ports. I THINK that you can connect the old computer to one port on the new system and connect the cable modem to the other port. This way you should be able to have both PC's connect to the Internet at the same time (after you've configured the ports). I'm going to try to do this with my board tomorrow and see if it works.

Be sure to post back and let us know how it works out!
