I just talked with a tech recruiter. The HR person at my recently lost job sent my info over to them to help me out. I talked to the recruiter today and she says they always want to meet up with the people they are working with, so I am having breakfast with her on Tuesday.

She said I didn't need to bring anything, but is there anything I should bring along with me?

Anything else I should know or do for this meeting? I've never worked with a recruiter before.

If she told you not to bring anything, she's probably trying to recruit you for a really shitty job.

She already has my resume and said she would bring a copy of that.

Here's what I'd bring -- copy of my resume, any reference's names, addresses and phone numbers I might need, a pen, and a piece of paper to take any notes on. Put it all in a folder or something and just have it on you in case you need it.

But, bring it anyhow, you gotta be prepared in case she forgets or loses it or whatever. Just fvcking bring a copy of it.

Otherwise, dress nicely, trim or shave your face (if it looks like the one in my sig, that's probably a bad thing), make sure you take a shower, and don't be drunk or hung over....

Be honest and don't let the recruiter fluff up your resume. One of our favorite things to do when interviewing/hiring is to pick up on the fluff and drill the candidate on stuff that's on the resume that they obviously know nothing about.

Don't let them send you on a job that you're not interested in or that you *know* you're not qualified for. Some recruiters will send you out just to build their contact sheets. Be politely assertive, they're making money from your placement, you should ultimately be the person in control.

On the other hand, follow their suggestions and ask if there's anything you should study in the meantime to improve your chances of placement.

Good Luck

I'd bring hard copies of your resume and also print out a short portfolio that highlights some of the best work you've done (grab a nice folder and print a simple cover sheet so it looks professional). Dress nicely, rehearse your interview answers, and plan a few casual chit chat questions to help yourself appear personable and laid back.

Bring a printed copy of your resume even though she said she'd bring one;, it helps you look prepared and a lot of the time the copy the recruiter has may have been run through some plain text system and comes out looking like garbage, so your copy can be nicer and easier to read.
