I purchased a retail Athlon64 FX-53 939. I had to remove it from the motherboard and I will have to put it on another motherboard. I pulled the heatsink off and then the processor per the instructions. I have some Arctic Silver left over. Am I supposed to scrape off that thermal pad put in the arctic silver and do it that way or am I supposed to just reattach the heatsink over the processor with the thermal pad that is already there? Thanks
 
I'd clean off the thermal pad first then apply arctic silver. In general it's probably not a good idea to reuse thermal pads/paste.
 
yeah clean off the pad completely, little bit of nail polish remover can help get the last traces off - but make sure it has completely evaporated before then applying the new artic silver.
