applying thermal compound to CPu core and heatsink

i have a question as to how long should i wait for it to "dry" on the compound i applied onto the heatsink before i attach it onto the cpu.
is this important/relevant?

It doesnt exactly dry, or the stuff I used didnt, just let it sit for a couple minutes and see what happens

First off, what thermal compound are you using? Since most (if not all) of them are applied to the CPU, not the heatsink. Next, I've never heard of a thermal compound that needed to dry.

generic, and first timer so i dunno much.

just apply a thin even layer to the CPU die and install your HSF> no need to let it sit. dont worry about being a first-timer , we all were at some point 😀 good luck!
