I already have to fill out the form where you list your qualifications, experience, skills and all that...

Should I make up a cover letter too?

I am thinking yes, because I doubt it could do any harm...

Won't this be going through HR first and aren't there procedures for internal transfers at your company?

Yes and yes... but the new manager needs stuff to look at when deciding who to hire... so I figured a cover letter to include with my resume and self-nomination form would be good.

Fill out the aplication in crayon.

It shows you are "creative" and can "think out side the box"

If your HR is anything like mine I would not.
They will review your rewsume and then if you meet the qualifications send it to who ever is in charge of the position.

I wil. be doing this and I can assure you that talking to the principle BEFORE you apply is better than writing a cover letter.

Whenever I apply internally, I just fill out the form. Our forms ask us not to attach anything extra. They already know who we are :)

Yes and yes.

I personally wouldn't have one, but that's because I don't think they add as much value once you already work someplace (they work as weeders IMO). Now headshots and polaroids of you making love to the punch bowl at the last company social -- send those in with your application.

LOL!
Actually, we do have a small story that is told every now and then about an old guy that used to work here. They were at the annual golf outing, and he brought his much younger girlfriend with him. When someone asked him how he got such a young pretty girlfriend, he promptly whipped out his man-gina saying "with this". Since he was drunk, they let it slide and just took away his manager status...

Send an internal cover letter direct to the manager of the position along with your "external" resume.
In the cover leter, also state that you have followed the proper procedures, howver, you wanted to let him know that you are interested in the slot.
