I thought they would need proof of income, bank account records, etc.

Is this just a "guess" at what the bank will give you?
Most of these online sites say "locked for 30-90 days". So in 5minutes I can get a locked rate for a mortgage without them checking anything except my credit?

Would it be best if I just walked to the bank and applied there?

I would avoid online mortgages, most of them are scams (check your spam folder, you'll probably reconize the company names). Best to go through a bank imo at least you're sitting in front of a real person and talking and such. As much as technology has evolved and lot of stuff is online, something major like buying a house, I rather do it face to face regardless of if the online ones are legit. Just imo anyway.

They will eventually need documentation. You are being "pre-approved" which means they have you tagged as a potential customer and not much else.
