which cc gives the best returns, benefits, and rewards other than citi bank dividend card? i am a college student and has a campus job.

Use the bank that you have a debit card at. That is the easiest way to get a good credit card since they know how much money you have, and thus, have some sort of trust of you.

mbna worldpoints (visa, mastercard, amex)
chase perfectcard (visa, mastercard)

i personally use Amex as my preferred choice (Gold Charge Card & Blue Credit Card), however i have a Visa Platinum as a backup

I'm going to watch this.. my daughter is in similar situation, looking for the best card a student can get..

I have an account with Bank of America and it's very easy getting a student credit card from them. No yearly fees, either. I'm sure most reputable banks have their own credit card, just make sure to specify you want the student card as it's very easy to get that way.

Get an AMEX charge card to start out with. The Student one. This way, you can start building credit and get used to the working of paying off a cedit card every month (you have to pay it off every month).

After that, you can start looking at other cards.

My suggestion anyway.

Bank of America will give you the most generous credit limits, although that's probalby not a good thing for you. 🙂

I suggest visiting a local bank and starting off with a $500 secured credit card.

Most rewards aren't very beneficial and you end up paying for them with fees or higher APRs in the long run. (Spend $2500 on your card to get a $25 gift certificate?)

I have a Bank One/Chase Platnium card that is 0% APR for 1 year, then 7.99% fixed after that. No fees.

i can't seem to get accepted for any credit cards. is it just because i am an unemployed student? my credit should be fine as i pay my bills every month. and my dad just co-signed a car for me. and my dad has outstanding credit (bling bling). someone tell me why... so i dont' screw up my credit report by applying to all these credit cards and then getting rejected.

if you dont get accepted for a reular card, do like i said and go into your bank with your dad, have him cosign for a secured card.

I had the same problem when I was 18-20 and I had a decent job. I finally got a Sears card and used it off and on for a year or so. I kept applying for cards and kept getting rejected. Then one day I got the Paypal Providian card for 24% APR! 😀 I used it sparingly to raise my credit. Then I started getting tons and tons of pre-approved credit cards in the mail. (although you REALLY arent pre-approved even though they say you are)

My suggestion is to get a Sears, JC Penny, whatever dept store card and watch the rates. That will give you a rating, which will let you get better cards later.

well i have a chase student card. but the apr is something like 18%. i apply for the cards that give me rewards or some % return on purchases. but i just can't seem to get approved. i get "pre-approved" from some providian company. their offers are sux. so yea.. i guess i'm just stuck.

I'm a student and AMEX sends me "pre-approved" blue card offerings all the time. I finally applied once and they rejected me b/c my yearly income wasn't > 20K. Pre-approved alright.

Ome, some card companies have a tendency to "lose" your payments or have otherwise poor service (so you have to send it in way early, esp. from Hawaii). Capital One is certainly one to avoid. Chase, MBNA, Amex all have good reputations as far as I have know. I believe all three allow you to pay your bill online as well. At this point, you might go with one of those simply to build good credit and not have to worry too much about the company trying to screw you over.

Okay I applied for some credit cards when I was 18 are got rejected. Then one day I got an offer for a student card from my bank. They only gave me like a 800$ limit now it has $2000. About 6 monthes later I applied for Blue the limit on that is now like $8,000. I just got a Citibank Dividend card. My limit on that is $3,700. I'm 21 now I hardly use the credit cards. If I have a big purchase I use them for security. Mostly just to build credit for later on in my life. Good Luck.

I use AMEX BLUE as my main card and where I earn all my points. I use various VISA cards and Mastercards as backup that I picked up along the way when they were offering 0% APR for a year.
