Applying AS5 to waterblock

Is it still best to use the grain of rice/rotatebthe block method to apply AS5 using a water block, or should I be spreading a thin layer?

I'm not sure if the method varies for a waterblock vs air heatsink

i use the grain of rice blob for everything, except for phase change i spread out a thin layer.
