I've never built an Intel before, when I put the Arctic silver on, is it ok to get it in the little hole? What's the hole for? If it's a problem, how do I put it on without getting it in it?

Not sure what the hole does - but I got it in there, and my system runs just fine.

The hole is there for air in the heatspreader to expand and prevent the heatspreader from exploding if there was no hole and the air got too hot.

I remember someone posting this exact same thread verbatim a few months ago and several times before that when I was just lurking. In short, do a se...sorry, I mean, it's okay to get some AS in there. No problem.

I'm told it's there to allow venting of outgassing adhesives used in the construction of the OGPGA. As the unit heats up, the vapor pressure increases and could fracture the fillet holding the spreader to the OGPGA base.

That, is very very bad. Artic Silver needs just a transparent coat to work well. Too much acutally hurt temps and make AS3 in-effective.

Shouldn't be a problem to get a little bit in there. As others have said, you just want a thin coat. I use a plastic credit card when applying it to the CPU, to get a nice, thin, even coat.

The hole is a byproduct of the manufacturing process (OGPGA). Once the cpu actually makes it to the end-user, it doesn't matter whether you cover it up.
