I just wanna make sure I got the steps right...

1. Clean the heatsink and cpu core with rubbing alcohol and clean soft cloth.

2. rub arctic silver over heatsink (where the cpu core will be), then wipe clean (leaving some of the arctic silver in the pores/imperfections on the heatsink.

3. apply small layer of arctic silver to cpu core and spread evenly.

4. attach heatsink

5. yadda yadda yadda...

right?

I don't think you need to apply it on both the heatsink and the cpu core. Just apply it on one or the other. I think if you were to apply it on both you would trap air in the arctic silver.

Nope for optimal use, Stefan's got it right. Apply it to the Heat sink and wipe it off which leaves it in all the nooks and crannies unless you sand the HSF to a nice shiny glaze.
