I checked the website and its not very clear.

Do you put some on the heatsink, spread it and rub it in, then clean it off, or leave it on? Then do you put a small dab on the CPU, lay the heatsink on it, and let it spread itself? Or what?

the website is pretty clear, you'll never get a great application with the heatspreader because its something else for it to transfer to. they recommend taking it off and or appling some between the core and spreader then putting it back on. buffing the heatsink is optional but i personally do so, then i just put a very very thing layer on the core/heatspreader then jam the heatsink on 🙂

cheers

p.s. - don't forget q-tips and rubbing alcohol to clean the surfaces from finger prints and other crap

AS5 is a little too thick and gummy to work into the heatsink... just put a dot in the middle of the heatspreader and install the heatsink.
