Apply for a job through Staffing company or directly to company?

So a staffing company saw my resume and called me to inform me about an available position with a company in my area. He sent me the link to the website of the company so I browse around noticed they have an employment area with the jobs listed. They even have a form to apply and submit my resume. Is it ethical to tell the recruiter i'm not interested and then directly submit my resume myself? I'm pretty sure if i apply through the staffing company, they're gonna take some commission away...

is it ethical? eh, screw them... all they do is take your money.. go direct to the company... this dude made a mistake by letting you know the company.. most recruiters will not tell you the company until you sign with the staffing agency

i wouldnt say it's unethical. though a couple points to keep in mind:
1) the staffing company probably works with the company on a regular basis and has a better chance of getting you hired.
2) for some positions, you may end up having to go through the staffing co. even if you applied directly. saying no to the staffing co., then ending up having to go through them, could look bad.
