Seeing the front page article on the Fire Pro card got me to thinking about what uses I might be able to have for a professional video card. I know the commonly mentioned applications are CAD and 3D modeling, but what are some other applications that benefit from these?

I think its a load of crap mostly. Its just a way for them to charge WAY more for the same old gaming card. Pro cards have certified drivers and certain programs let you use exclusive fancy features, such as solidworks realview shading. So, if you want your expensive program to work with all the bells and whistles, you must pay for an expensive video card. Its a racket.
Also, what I find interesting is that I do the same kind of CAD work, using the same kind of software that I have for years, yet the GPU I used to use back then won't run the programs now. The work is the same, the drawings are the same, the design complexity is the same, the graphics look the same, yet for some reason the program requires way more resources to run, forcing you to buy a new GPU, a pro level card as a matter of fact if you want it to work with all the features. ITS A RACKET.

That seems to be the trend with ALL software. Each iteration becomes more and more of a resource hog.
